Consolidated Outland Mustang Alpha

No longer a Star Citizen starter pack — replaced by the Aurora MkII on March 25, 2026

If you came here looking for the $45 Mustang Alpha Starter Pack: it does not exist anymore. RSI restructured the entry-level lineup in March 2026 and removed the Mustang from starter pack status. The ship itself is still purchasable as a standalone for $45 — but it no longer includes Star Citizen game access. Here is the full 2026 status and how to actually start in Star Citizen now.

Mustang Alpha vs Aurora MkII (the 2026 debate)

If you are deciding what to buy as a new player in 2026, this is the only comparison that matters. The Aurora MR vs Mustang Alpha debate ended when the Aurora MkII replaced both.

Bottom line

If you are creating a new RSI account, you need a Game Package. The Citizen Starter Pack with the Aurora MkII is the only $45 option that includes one. The Mustang Alpha at $45 standalone is a ship-only purchase — it would not get you into the game unless you bought a separate starter pack on top. The Mustang is best as an existing player's second-ship purchase.

All Mustang variants

Five variants share the Consolidated Outland Mustang airframe. The Alpha is the base civilian model.

How to actually start Star Citizen in 2026

If you came here looking for "the Mustang Alpha starter pack", here is the current path.

Step 1 — Buy a current starter pack

Cheapest option: Citizen Starter Pack at $45 with the RSI Aurora MkII. Includes game access, 10,000 UEC, and 6-month insurance.

Step 2 — Use the referral code at signup

Enter STAR-JTV7-FXLR in the Referral Rewards field at account creation. Adds 50,000 UEC of in-game currency on top of whatever pack you buy. Costs you nothing extra.

Step 3 (optional) — Add the Mustang Alpha later

If you still want a Mustang Alpha, buy it as a $45 standalone after you have the Aurora MkII or any other starter pack. It will appear in your hangar alongside your starter ship. This is the only path to owning a Mustang Alpha in 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Mustang Alpha still a Star Citizen starter pack in 2026?
No. On March 25, 2026, RSI replaced the Mustang Alpha in the Citizen Starter Pack with the RSI Aurora MkII. The Mustang Alpha is still purchasable as a standalone ship at $45 USD but no longer includes Star Citizen game access by itself.
How much does the Mustang Alpha cost in 2026?
$45 USD as a standalone ship purchase. This does not include Star Citizen game access — to play the game you also need a Game Package such as the Citizen Starter Pack ($45 with the Aurora MkII).
What replaced the Mustang Alpha in the starter pack?
The RSI Aurora MkII. On March 25, 2026, RSI updated the Citizen Starter Pack to use the new modular Aurora MkII. The Aurora MR had been retired on May 29, 2025, and the Mustang Alpha temporarily filled the slot until the Aurora MkII launched.
Mustang Alpha vs Aurora MkII — which is better?
For new players in 2026, the Aurora MkII is the better choice — it is the only one that comes with game access at the same $45 price (in the Citizen Starter Pack), has a bed for field log-off, and has a modular cargo bay. The Mustang Alpha trades the bed for faster atmosphere speed, but as a starter for a new account, it is no longer the right entry.
What are all the Mustang variants?
Five variants share the Consolidated Outland Mustang airframe: Alpha (base civilian, speed + light cargo), Beta (touring/exploration with rear passenger cabin and bed), Delta (military/combat with armor and 36 FFAR rockets, no cargo), Gamma (racing with three engines, low mass), and Omega (limited-edition AMD bundle from 2016, secondary market only).
What are the Mustang Alpha's specs?
Length ~21.5 m, beam ~18 m, mass ~34,220 kg. Single crew. SCM speed 225 m/s, afterburner ~1,200 m/s. 4 SCU external drop-down cargo bay. Hardpoints: 2× Size 1 wing pylons (fixed) + 1× Size 1 unmanned nose turret with 2× Size 2 guns. No missile hardpoints stock. Two Size 1 shield generators by default.
Is the Mustang Alpha worth buying as a new player in 2026?
Only as a second or third purchase. New players should buy the Citizen Starter Pack ($45) which includes game access plus the Aurora MkII. Adding a Mustang Alpha later for $45 makes sense if you want a faster combat-oriented backup ship, but it cannot be your only purchase since it does not include game access.
Can I still get the old Mustang Alpha Starter Pack on the secondary market?
Some grey-market sites list old Mustang Alpha Starter Packs from before March 2026. RSI does not officially support these transactions and they carry account-transfer risks. The safer path is to buy a current Citizen Starter Pack and add a standalone Mustang Alpha separately if you want one.
